To overcome the obstacles of dyslexia, he forced himself into a daily writing and reading practice. His writing influences were Leon Uris, Tom Clancy, Ernest Hemingway, John Irving, Robert Ludlum, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Gore Vidal.

Many questioned his career choices, but he stuck to his guns and eventually finished his first book, “Term Limits.”

It was, however, apparently rejected by over sixty publishers. In 1998, he self-published “Term Limits,” which rapidly became a local best-seller. Within a week, the publishing business “Pocket Books” snatched it up and signed him to a two-book deal.
