Sarah Somers is his mother’s name, and he has a younger brother named John. His father’s identity is unknown, although he is a musician, and his mother is a stay-at-home mother. Because his father was a musician, he was often on the move, which made his boyhood rather lonely.

His mother had a difficult time raising two children on her own because his father was away most of the time. As he grew older, SoMo became more interested in music, but he didn’t take it seriously until the seventh grade. A female buddy from SoMos class wrote him a sweet note, referring to him as JoSoMo. If SoMo became a musician, he thought it would be a good stage name. In addition, he utilized this name as his username on a number of websites.
