Gold Onwude was able to continue playing basketball while studying for her bachelor’s degree. As a starting guard for the Stanford women’s basketball team from 2005 to 2010, she appeared in three Final Fours and two national championship games while helping the Cardinal capture four conference crowns.

The next season, she was named Pac-10 Co-Defensive Player of the Year, capping off her Stanford career as the school’s all-time leader in games played. Similarly, she was selected to represent the Nigeria women’s national team at the 2011 FIBA Africa Championship for Women.
