Robert Lamm is an American keyboardist, singer, and songwriter best known as a founding member of the rock band Chicago.

On October 13, 1944, Robert William Lamm was born in Brooklyn, New York City. He was interested in music as a child, and his parents were an early influence on him because they had a collection of jazz records.

Lamm used to sing in a boy’s choir at Grace Episcopal Church in Brooklyn Heights when he was a teenager. According to him, that was the first time he received musical instruction, and was exposed to composers ranging from the Middle Ages to the 20th Century.

Lamm’s parents divorced when he was 15 years old, and his mother later remarried, causing him to relocate to Chicago, Illinois. He studied art in high school, specifically drawing and painting, but later attended Roosevelt University in Chicago to study music.

Robert Lamm began his musical career in 1967 when he formed the rock band Chicago. He recorded six-hit music albums with the group, which sold millions of copies worldwide.

Skinny Boy, Lamm’s solo album released in 1974, was the only solo album released by any member of the rock band until the 1980s. He appeared to be in a period of personal and professional frustration at the time. In 1982, he rediscovered himself and emerged with a new attitude.

He then moved to New York and released a number of solo albums. He formed the Beckley-Lamm-Wilson band with Gerry Beckley of America and Carl Wilson of The Beach Boys. Following Wilson’s death, he released the music album Like a Brother in 2000.

Lamm remained active with his rock band Chicago, releasing several albums for them, including Stone of Sisyphus, Night and Day, Chicago XXX, and Chicago Now 36.

He was appointed as a guest lecturer on music production at Stanford University in 2012. Lamm also taught songwriting at New York University.
