While still in college, Sanchez started his broadcasting career at WCCO’s satellite sister station in Alexandria, Minnesota. In 1982, he made his debut on WSVN in Miami, where he quickly rose to the role of weekend anchor. He also worked for Houston’s KHOU. In 2001, Sanchez made an appearance on MSNBC. Sanchez left MSNBC in 2003 to return to his hometown of Miami, where he anchored a local talk show on WTVJ. He went on to anchor WBZL, a WB affiliate at the time, before joining CNN in 2004.

After Campbell Brown’s show was canceled, he returned to the 8 p.m. EST slot for an evening version of Rick’s List, which lasted until the premiere of Parker Spitzer. Sanchez began working as a radio announcer for Florida International University on July 27, 2011, according to The Washington Post. Sanchez began providing analysis of the FIU football team in September 2011. Rick Sanchez returned to cable news in September 2012 as a reporter for Fox News Latino. On September 30, 2010, Sanchez appeared on Sirius XM’s radio show Stand Up With Pete Dominick for an interview. Sanchez apologized several times since the incident occurred. Stewart received a personal apology from him. Jon Stewart told Larry King on October 20, 2010, that Sanchez should have been fired for what he said in the radio interview; Stewart called the dismissal “total nonsense,” and stated that he was not “personally injured.” After meeting with Foxman, he said that Sanchez can now “put the matter to rest,” adding that he hopes Sanchez can now move on with his life and work.
