Rick James debuted in 1978 with Come Get It!, which Stone City Band covered. “You and I” from the album became a number-one R&B smash.

Bustin’ Out of L Seven, his second album, sold a million copies in 1979. In 1979, they released Fire It Up, which went gold.

After rip in 1980, he released the ballad-heavy Garden of Love, which went gold. Street Songs is his best-selling album to date. The concept album was like his previous four.

Being resentful of Prince’s success as a producer, he released Process, the Doo-Rags, and the Mary Jane Girls.
