Bergoglio’s path to the priesthood began when he passed by a church. He was on his way to celebrate the arrival of Spring. The priest on duty had an impact on him. Bergoglio went to the Immaculate Conception Seminary at Villa Devotion.

He spent three years in the seminary training to become a novice before joining the Society of Jesus on March 11, 1958. He went to Santiago, Chile, to conduct research on people. On March 12, 1960, he took his first vows of chastity, obedience, and trust.

Bergoglio was appointed coadjutor archbishop of Buenos Aires on June 3, 1997. He was then appointed Metropolitan Archbishop, and he wanted to establish new parishes.
