Paul Gardner Allen was born in Seattle, Washington, on January 21, 1953, to Edna Faye Allen and Kenneth Sam Allen. He was raised in Seattle.

Along with Bill Gates, Paul Allen launched the BASIC programming language interpreter in 1975. They founded Microsoft in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the same year.
