His father was a truck driver who died of alcoholism in 1967. Lane was only eleven years old at the time. Nora, his mother, has worked as a secretary. She died in 2000 as a result of bipolar disorder. Lane has two older brothers named Robert and Daniel Jr. In New Jersey City; he attended Catholic schools. During his studies, he was named “Best Actor” in 1974 and received the “Prep Hall of Fame Professional Achievement Award” in 2011.
