He used to play soccer for his college team, The Pittsburgh Panthers, during his undergraduate years. He was also a letterman for four years. Furthermore, he was selected by the San Francisco 49ers as the 248th pick in the ninth round in 1991. After a year, he joined the Sacramento Surge and, later, the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League. In addition, from 1993 to 1995, he was a member of the Cleveland Browns. He returned to the Atlanta Falcons in 1996 and played for the next two years.
