Lisa studied English Literature and Art History as a mature student at Simon Fraser University from 1984 to 1988. Despite dropping out of college, she worked as an independent bookseller from 1988 to 1994. Lisa began working as a teacher and freelance writer in 1995. She worked as a writer in residence and as a visiting professor at various colleges and universities in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Lisa Robertson’s book Occasional Works and Seven Walks from the Office of Soft Architecture, published in 2003, contained a number of works, including essays and contemporary visual arts that she had previously published in museum and gallery catalogues since the mid-’90s. Lisa was a Griffin Poetry Prize judge in 2006, as well as a Holloway poet-in-residence at UC Berkeley. Her debut novel, The Baudelaire Fracture, is set to be published in 2020.
