Jon Gruden is an American football coach who now serves as the head coach of the National Football League’s Las Vegas Raiders. Jon Gruden has also worked as an ESPN commentator as a Monday Night Football commentator.

Early years

Gruden’s full name is Jon David Gruden, and he was born on August 17, 1963. He was born in Sandusky, Ohio, and is of Slovene origin. He came from a sporting family, with his father Jim working for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a regional scout, quarterbacks coach, and director of player personnel. In the Arena Football League, his brother Jay also played and coached. He was the head coach of the Washington Redskins until recently. James, on the other hand, was a cardiologist. Education

Gruden started his coaching career as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Tennessee shortly after graduating. After a year at Tennessee, Gruden spent two years as the quarterbacks’ coach at Southeast Missouri State. Later, he was hired by Walt Harris, one of Tennessee’s offensive coordinators. At the University of the Pacific, he employed Gruden. Following that, he worked for the San Francisco 49ers. Gruden was hired as the wide receivers coach at the University of Pittsburgh in March 1991, under head coach Paul Hackett.

Gruden’s first professional coaching employment came in 1992, when he was appointed as the Green Bay Packers’ special offensive assistant coach after a few years as a college coach. After three years with the Packers, he became the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles.Al Davis, the Oakland Raiders’ owner and general manager, hired Gruden as the team’s head coach for the 1998 season. The Oakland Raiders improved to 8-8 under Gruden after two consecutive losing seasons. The next season, the record was again duplicated. In 2000, though, Gruden brought in experienced quarterback Rich Gannon, and the club improved from 8-8 to 12-4, winning the AFC West. In addition, from 2000 to 2002, they reached the playoffs three times in a row.

Gruden succeeded Tony Dungy as head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after four seasons with the Raiders. To get Gruden as coach, the Buccaneers had to make a major move.
