John Calvin Maxwell was born in Garden City, Michigan, on February 20, 1947. He attended Circleville Bible College and received his bachelor’s degree in 1969. He later attended Azusa Pacific University, where he earned a Master of Divinity, and Fuller Theological Seminary, where he earned a Doctor of Ministry.

Maxwell began his ministry as a pastor in Indiana, Ohio, California, and Florida in the 1970s. After more than 15 years as a lead pastor, he departed Skyline Church in 1995. He became a member of the congregational ministry at Christ Fellowship in Florida, where he is presently a teaching pastor.

He was a guest priest at Crystal Cathedral in Orange County, California, in 2008. Robert H. Schuller, who retired as senior pastor in 2008, was his mentor. For numerous years, Maxwell preached in Crystal Cathedral, and his sermons were televised on the Hour of Power television program.

Maxwell’s first book, “There Is No Such Thing as Business Ethics,” was published by Warner Business Books in 2003. His book was well-received and made the New York Times Best-Seller list. Later, he published a number of other books, including Put Your Dream to the Test, The 17 Indisputable Laws of Teamwork, Be All You Can Be, Cook Communications, and many others.

Throughout his distinguished career, John Maxwell has received numerous accolades and acclaim. He was one of 25 authors named to Amazon.com’s 10th Anniversary Hall of Fame. At Indiana Wesleyan University, he has a building named after him. Maxwell received an honorary doctorate degree and was inducted into the 2015 IWU Society of World Changers.
