On February 25, 1989, Jerry purchased the Dallas Cowboys from H.R. Bright for $140 million. Following his purchase, he sacked the coach, Tom Landry, and replaced him with Jimmy Johnson. Eventually, he sacked the general manager, Tex Schramm. He finally gained control of everything in his hands.

His hires paid off handsomely for him because the Cowboys were regarded as one of the top teams in the NFL in the 1990s. Jerry’s team won the Super Bowl in 1992 and again in 1993. Barry Switzer took over for Johnson. The Cowboys won again under his leadership in 1995.
