Better Than the Rest, Thorogood’s demo album, was released in 1979. The following year, he made his major recording debut with his album “George Thorogood and the Destroyers.” The next year, he released another album with the Destroyers band. It was called “Move It on Over.” This band’s early success led to an increase in the folk label “Rounder Records.”

Thorogood received his first mainstream exposure while touring with the Rolling Stones in the United States in 1981. On October 2, 1982, he appeared as a guest on Season 8 and the second episode of Saturday Night Live.

Destroyers were made up of several talented musicians, including Thorogood (guitar), Jeff Simon (drums), and Michael Lenn (bass).

Following the release of three music albums with “Rounder,” he signed with “Capitol Records” and recorded several more records in the 1980s and 1990s. In 1985, he and other band members performed at Live Show, where they shared the stage with blues legend “Albert Collins.”
