Freddie Roach was born in 1960 to a father named Paul Roach, who raised him alongside his brothers Pepper and Joey. As a teenager, this boxer was a dominant force in the New England amateur and AAU ranks.

He turned professional in 1978, fighting as a lightweight and winning his first ten fights. He was trained by a legendary trainer named Eddie Futch and had a record of 26-1 before competing in a historic match in 1982.

Freddie Roach began his career in various jobs near Las Vegas, including telemarketing and busboys, before accepting a job as an unpaid associate from his previous trainer, Eddie Futch, in 1986.

These jobs came after he retired from fighting. Furthermore, he has excelled in his most recent position, serving as Futch’s associate for five years.

In 1991, an actor named Mickey Rourke returned to boxing halfway through his acting career and hired Roach to train him in Hollywood, California. While Rourke agreed to retire from boxing in 1995, he gave Roach gym equipment.

He owns the Wild Card Boxing Club in Los Angeles and works alongside his brother Pepper. Furthermore, he is one of the most well-known trainers in boxing. Manny Pacquiao, the eight-division world champion, is his prized ward.

He also trained Oscar De La Hoya for his super fight against Floyd Mayweather, Jr. in 2007. Furthermore, his first world champion was Virgil Hill, whom he inherited from his previous trainer, Eddie Futch.

Aside from that, he is well-known for having previously trained British boxers such as Gary Stretch, who was preparing for his WBO Middleweight Championship fight against Amir Khan and Chris Eubanks.

Under Roach’s guidance, these boxers became WBA Light Welterweight Champion in 2009 and IBF Light Welterweight Champion in 2011.
