Edith tried her hand at teaching French at private institutions for women in California before becoming a designer. In 1932, however, she decided to try her hand as a sketch artist at Paramount Pictures. Despite the fact that Edith was not an official sketch artist, she responded to Paramount’s job advertisement.

Surprisingly, Edith arrived at the interview with a portfolio from a fellow student from a drawing class. During that moment, Howard Greer, Paramount’s top designer, recruited her nevertheless. There was no turning back from that point on.

Her time at Paramount was clearly a watershed moment in her career. When she designed the clothes for Dorothy Lamour in “Jungle Princess,” Edith was given the moniker “The Doctor.” By 1938, this versatile designer had risen to the position of Paramount’s main costume designer.

Edith died on October 24, 1981, at the age of 84, and the world was in grief. She was suffering from myelofibrosis myeloid, a rare bone marrow illness, at the time.

She was working on a new picture just a few weeks before she died. According to sources, Head died on Saturday at Good Samaritan Hospital in Hollywood.
