Wierer won her first Biathlon World Championships medal in 2013, finishing third in the Women’s relay with Nicole Gontier, Michela Ponza, and Karin Oberhofer at the Biathlon World Championships in Nove Mesto na Morave.

It was Italy’s first-ever medal at the Biathlon World Championships. She won gold in the 12.5 km Mass Start at the 2019 World Championships in Ostersund. Wierer is the first Italian woman to win a biathlon.
