Emil Lewandowski, aka Cory Wells, was born in Buffalo, New York, on February 5, 1941. Cory had a terrible life because his father died when he was young. Cory’s mother faced numerous difficulties as a single mother until she remarried. Cory changed his last name from Lowendowski to Wells when he was 18.

He’d witnessed the worst in his childhood. His stepfather used to abuse and beat him. Cory joined several local bands and used to perform in the Buffalo area while in high school. Cory enlisted in the United States Air Force after graduating from high school. During his time in the Air Force, he formed a band of mixed-race musicians. This band was inspired by one of Cory’s favorite bands, The Del-Vikings.

Wells returned to his home in Buffalo after his military service. He joined a local band called “The Vibratos” while there. That was the watershed moment in his life. Cory later changed the name of his band, The Vibrators, to The Enemies. The band began performing at various Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and San Diego bars. The band rose to prominence in a relatively short period. As a result, they become the house band at one of West Hollywood’s most famous nightclubs, Whisky a Go Go.

The Enemy band was also invited to appear on popular television shows such as The Beverly Hillbillies and Burke’s Law. In addition, the band appeared in various films, including Harper and Riot on Sunset Strip. The band’s popularity grew to Whisky a Go Go nightclub offered his band a tour with the famed American pair singing group Sonny & Cher. Cory met songwriter and vocalist Danny Hutton while on tour.

In 1967, Danny Hutton and Corry Wells formed Three Dog Night, one of the most well-known rock bands. This group’s members included Chuck Negron, Danny, and Cory as the lead vocalist. Michael Allsup (guitarist), Floyd Sneed (drummer), and Joe Schermie were also members of this band (bass player).

Cory Wells rose to international prominence as a rock band Three Dog Night member. Cory’s talent was vital in his band’s success. Cory’s songs, such as “Mama Told Me (Not To Come),” reached the top of the US pop singles list. His other big successful songs, such as Play Something Sweet, peaked at number 33 on the Billboard Hot 100. Aside from that, his tracks “Shambala” and “Never Been to Spain” reached third on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Canadian music charts. His ensemble was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2000.
