Christopher Robinson was born in Marietta, Georgia, to Nancy Jane and Stanley Robinson. His father, Stan Robinson, had a Billboard-charting hit in 1959 called “Boom-A-Dip-Dip.” His father died in 2013.

He went to Wofford College and graduated from there. Mr. Crowe’s Garden was created in 1980 by Robinson and his brother Rich Robinson, who The Rolling Stones and The Faces heavily influenced.

The Black Crowes were once known as Mr. Crowe’s Garden and were signed to Rick Rubin’s label, Def American. Shake Your Money Maker was their debut record, and it was a tremendous success, so they went on tour to promote it. The Black Crowes issued six additional studio albums over nine years; one of them, Jerry Garcia, died in 1995. In 2002, Steve Gorman departed the band, and they announced that the band was taking a vacation.

Robinson’s first recording was “The Red Road,” also featured on the 2002 film The Bang Sisters soundtrack. As a solo artist, he released his debut album “New Earth Mud,” which received good reviews around the country. To promote the album, he went on tour with the band. He had collaborated on various songs with members of The Black Crow. They split up in 2004.

The Black Crowes reformed in 2005 for a run at Hammerstein Ballroom but expanded into much more and even went on tour; during the time, they released another album, Brothers of a Feather, and another in 2009, “before the frost,” and in 2015 they announced their final breakup due to disagreements with his brother about band ownership.

In 2010, he established the “Chris Robinson Brotherhood,” which in 2018 evolved into “As the Crow Flies,” a band that performed songs from The Black Crowes catalog. Former Black Crowes members Audley Freed and Adam MacDougall were among the band’s members, as were Marcus King, Tony Leone, and Andy Hess. Robinson has also composed music.
