Vinatieri was born on December 28, 1972, in Yankton, South Dakota, to Judy and Paul Vinatieri. Adam was exceptionally well provided with sports facilities and equipment as a child since his parents firmly encouraged his desire to become an athlete. Vinatieri began playing tennis, baseball, and basketball from a young age. He even wrestled at times, but he was more interested in and dedicated to football.

When questioned why he did not explore playing the same sport in a different role (i.e. goalkeeper, chaser, etc.), he stated that because of his large body and height, he could only play from the back in High School because the other players were not as big as him. Despite his great-grandfather’s interest in music, his parents’ primary focus was sports.

Adam Vinatieri attended Rapid City Central High School in Rapid City, South Dakota. He received his bachelor’s degree from South Dakota State University. His undergraduate career was uneventful, as he flew through it, earning numerous honors, including 185-lifetime points.

Aside from that, Adam’s younger brother Beau Vinatieri also played placekicker while attending Black Hills State University.

Vinatieri’s professional football training began shortly after his graduation in 1995. His career began when the National Football League Europe called him in for a tryout (earlier known as the World League of American Football). He was hired as a placekicker and punter by the “Amsterdam Admirals.”

Adam was signed as an undrafted free agent by the “Patriots” to play placekicker in his early years. During this time, he appeared in four Super Bowls, winning three of them.

Adam Vinatieri distinguished himself by playing a key part in the two Super Bowl victories in 2001 and 2003. He was named the first player in Super Bowl history to be the deciding factor (two of them).

Adam Vinatieri has a career field goal percentage of 81.9% at the end of the Patriots’ final season in 2005, which ranks fifth in NFL history.
